Born in Paris, Jacques Thareau, a pupil of Amaury Wallez at the Saint Maur Conservatoire National de Région, finished his studies in 1986 and was appointed first bassoonist with the French National Youth Orchestra in the same year.

Since then, he has worked regularly with the most famous French orchestras. He joined the « Octuor de France » in 1997.
